The website(http://www.p21.org/) is a great website that has a ton of resources for teachers trying to teach 21st century skills. What I liked best about this website is that it defined the skills that students must know for the 21st century. Unlike our school district, which tells us we need to teach these skills but does define what skills we should be teaching. Another great aspect of this website is all of the wonderful tools that it has to offer. For example, they have a large amount of videos that show teachers using these skills in their classroom. After watching a hand full of them, I really enjoyed watching the high school science teacher teaching his lesson on the hydrologic structures. Lastly, I was very pleased to see that Ohio (the state that I teach in) is one of only a few states that are a part of this website and has started to rework our state standards to better fit 21st century learning.
If you have five minutes, check out this high school science teacher using these skills in action. It's really awesome!

I'm right there with you loving the videos available. It's so hard sometimes to get on board with all of the theories and "best practices" that are always given to us to adopt into our classrooms. They do sound good...but they are theories...and it's so hard to use them the way they are intended without seeing them in action. That's why I love these videos! It just makes good sense to show how it all works in a practical, classroom application.
ReplyDeleteYes the web site has lots of information but it needs better organization of the content. Even they are using a CMS (Content Management System), Joomla, it is not organized nicely. Reaching the needed information and the resources on the site is really tough job.
